Day 1: Kouvola – Kultaa, approx. 44 km

The Kymijoki River Two Cities route starts from the Kouvola travel centre, which is easily accessible from all directions. The initial part of the route runs through the centre of Kouvola, but after a fairly short transition you can cycle along the river. Next, we approach the green settlement of Myllykoski. Myllykoski Koivusaari also has a country swimming pool where you can refresh yourself. The route then continues through the countryside towards the old industrial town of Inkeroinen. The route winds around the Kymijoki River and crosses the river at Anjala, arriving at Ankkapurha (24 km from the start). There is plenty to see next to the Ankkapurha rapids, including Alvar Aalto architecture and an industrial museum. It's worth stopping here for a while to take a closer look at what the area has to offer. Ankkapurha also offers accommodation services if you want to stay here for a longer period. Otherwise, continue towards the Kouvola-Kotka border to Susikoski, where there is a café that is particularly popular with motorcyclists. After the village of Huruksela, the journey continues along gravel roads in the countryside to Ahvionkoski, where you can admire the flowing and babbling river from the cliffs. The final stage of the day ends at Kultaankoski, where Erämys-Keisarin Kosket Oy offers idyllic accommodation with sauna and dinner.

If you need a bike for your trip, you can inquire about suitable options from Saimaan Palju Oy, located in Tykkimäki, Kouvola or Otter's Rental Company in the city of Kotka.
