Stage 3: Jurvala - Huopaisenvirta hut 19 km
The old bridge structures at the bottom of the Risulahdentie road are impressive. At this point, the services of Jurvala in Luumäki (including a shop) are only a short distance from the Väliväylä waterway. Pärsämäki hut is worth a walk, as there is a forest path about 1.5 km long. From the Huopaistenvirta rest stop it is possible to hike about 8 km to the Taavet Fortress.
The Väliväylä canoeing route also runs right next to Pärsäniemi hut.
After Luumäki, the route continues towards the northwest and the lower part of the Savitaipaleentie underpass. In Lake Ala-Kivijärvi’s Tynkäniemi, the paddler is greeted by numerous grey and white islets and rocks rising from the water. At Kelkjärvi, the bends in the waterway, coloured by the shore structures, provide a nice change of scenery.
