Stage 2: Salpalinjan Hovi - Jurvala 24 km

If you want to skip the lake Saimaa section and the large fjards, a suitable starting point is Kärki lean-to shelter at Lake Jängynjärvi.

After passing under the Mikkeli road, the dark and serpentine Lake Jängynjärvi, surrounded by marshes, lies ahead. After Lake Jängynjärvi, the high cliffs of Varis-Lavola, the rock paintings of Lake Vetjajärvi and the bunkers of Vuossaari await the paddler. At Kivijärvi lake, the narrows open up into the lake and the journey continues westwards. The Leinniemi and Surmasaari rest points provide a rhythm to the paddling, and the canoe pier in front of the Salpa Hotel makes it easy to reach the shore and also serves as a convenient departure and arrival point.

Kotkaniemi, President P.E. Svinhufvud House Museum, a garden and museum of great historical construction interest, showcases the rural life of the elite of the early 20th century. There is a jetty on the beach, allowing you to go ashore and explore the site.

The services of the Salpa Hotel with its restaurants, beach sauna and renovated bunkers are a great stop before Risulahti.
